Google Drive

Connecting Google Drive lets the assistant read documents you already keep there, so it can answer from a file rather than asking you to paste its contents.

It does not require Google Workspace

This connection stands on its own. A personal Google account with Drive is enough.

The wider Google Workspace connection also covers Drive, alongside calendar, contacts and mail. Connect that one if you want those areas too; connect this one if documents are all you need.

Steps

  1. Open Technology and choose Google Drive.
  2. Sign in to Google and review what is being requested.
  3. Approve.

What gets read

Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, and files stored in Drive as PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, plain text or Markdown.

Text is extracted from each and broken into passages so the assistant can find the relevant part of a long document rather than only the title. A scanned document takes longer than a digital one, because the text has to be recognised before anything can be taken from it.

What it is for

Answering from your own material. A supplier agreement, a price list, a policy, a manual — the assistant can cite the passage instead of you finding it.

Timing

Documents are read after they arrive rather than as they arrive, and the connection collects on a schedule, so a file added a moment ago may not be available immediately — see data freshness.

A file that has not appeared after a reasonable interval is usually a format or legibility question — see an upload did not appear.

Security and data

Access is read-only. Omnyra reads the files you have granted; it does not create, alter or delete anything in your Drive.

Omnyra never sees or stores your Google password. You sign in on Google's own screen, and what is held afterwards is a token you can revoke.

Revoke it either by disconnecting here or from your Google account's own security settings, where every application with access is listed. Revoking stops further reading immediately.
