Employee onboarding

Onboarding turns "everything a new person needs in their first week" into a template you build once and assign to each new hire.

How it works

  1. Create a template and add the tasks to it.
  2. Assign the template to a new employee.
  3. Work through the tasks as they are completed.

Active assignments are shown together, so you can see who is partway through and what is outstanding.

Why a template rather than a list

The first week is when a business is at its least organised about a new person and its most consequential. The things that get missed are rarely the obvious ones — it is the tool account nobody set up, the safety briefing that was assumed, the payroll form that surfaces three weeks later as a problem.

A template moves that from memory to process. The second hire gets the same start as the first, which is what makes a small business feel less small.

What to put in one

Everything that has to happen once, in order, for somebody to be able to do the job: paperwork, pay setup, tool and vehicle access, accounts, safety, introductions, and whatever your trade requires by law.

The test of a good template is whether somebody who was not there could run it. If a task says "sort out the van", it is not a task yet.

Where the records go

Certifications and signed paperwork belong in employee documents, which tracks expiry so a lapsed certification is caught before it becomes a problem on a job site.
