A statement is uploaded to reconcile an account for a period, or to catch up several months at once.
The steps
- Open Accounting → Reconciliation and choose the account.
- Upload the statement for the period.
- The closing balance and transactions are read from it. Larger statements take a moment.
- Review what was found, then confirm.
Several statements can be uploaded at once, which is the usual approach when catching up.
When you need this
Mostly when catching up. A connected bank feeds transactions continuously, so a statement upload is for periods before the connection existed, or for an account that is not connected.
If you are uploading statements every month for a connected account, connect the account instead — see connecting your bank.
What it is for
Confirming that what the platform shows matches what the bank shows, one period at a time. An unreconciled account means every figure built on it is unproven — see reconciliation.
If the balance does not agree
A difference is information rather than an error. Work down the causes in order: timing, a missing transaction, a duplicate, then an amount entered wrong — see reconciling an account.
